18th century castle

Sant Ferran castle in Figueres was built on the 18th century, during Ferdinand VI reign in Spain. The French troops’ frequent incursions during the late 17th century and the early 18th century revealed the need of having, in this border territory, a military facility assigned to avoid the continuous invasions from the neighboring country.

Today Sant Ferran castle has recovered its splendor and international importance as a historical monument thanks to the Consortium, integrated by the Ministry of Defense, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Figueres City Hall.
