The Sant Ferran castle Consortium was born as a result of the Governing Partnership Agreement, signed on November 6th, 2003 between the Ministry of Defense, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Figueres City Hall to put cultural value to Saint Ferdinand castle in Figueres; to do so, the Ministry of Defense yields to the Consortium the use of the lands and facilities of the Castle during a term of fifty years.

There aren’t many fortresses built in precedent centuries that can be interpreted as Sant Ferran castle. The Sant Ferran castle Consortium, integrated by the Ministry of Defense, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Figueres City Hall, is in charge of the revitalization, preservation and maintenance of the fortress. Today, Sant Ferran castle, built on the 18th century, is one of the historical jewels of the modern age that can be visited.

Sant Ferran Castle has several buildings, powder magazine, stables, arms square, moats, church and a former prison. More than 18,000 m2 of floor areas and more than 140,000 m2 of outdoor spaces to host cultural acts, celebrations, shows, sport events, photograph sessions and filming. Sant Ferran castle is one of those singular places in Catalonia, due to its history and cultural and tourism value. In 1999 the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, through the Institute for the Spanish Historical Art Heritage from the Fine Arts General Administration, called a public tender to design the Saint Ferdinand Castle Master Plan, which purpose was to make the fortress regain its cultural value while becoming at the same time a tourism, economic and cultural attraction pole, but without loosing in the process its own essence, determined by its origin and historical function.

Nowadays, Sant Ferran castle is the tourism, economic and cultural attraction center that offers services and activities to organize social, cultural and sport events and television and movies shootings.
