It is a non-profit making public body the aim of which is to foster financial, technical and economic cooperation between the entities that form part of it (the Ministry of Defence, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Figueres Town Council) to manage, organize and increase the level of conservation, restoration and revitalizing work carried out at the Sant Ferran fortress.
The Consortium was created when a Collaboration Agreement was signed on 6th November 2003 between the Ministry of Defence, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Figueres Town Council with the objective of enhancing the cultural value of the Sant Ferran Castle, Figueres.
As a result of this Agreement, the Statutes of the Consortium of the Sant Ferran Castle and the Ministry of Defense Consortium grants the use of the land and facilities of the Castle for a period of fifty years.
